Allergies can make the most beautiful day seem like a disaster. I never suffered from seasonal and nasal allergies until I was an adult and then I learned how terrible it could be. Whether it’s spring time when my allergies are the worst or throughout the year when they flare up on random days, I’ve found several items to help keep my allergies under control.
These items are things I’ve bought for myself to help with allergy relief based on recommendations from friends with allergies and reviews online. Relief from the sneezing, runny nose, water eyes, and general misery of allergies is something worth spending money on to find relief so I hope some of these products can help you too!
Whether you suffer from allergies and want relief for yourself, or just hope to give a gift that gives relief to a loved one, these allergy relief products are sure to please.
Allergy Medicine
Finding the right allergy medicine for you can take some trial and error. Like most people I started with highly recommended over-the-counter allergy medicine. Luckily for me this relieved most of my worst symptoms. I use Zrytec Allergy Relief Tablets or Kirkland Signature Aller-tec most of the time and there are also over the counter medicines like Allegra and Benadryl. If you don’t get the same relief then you might need something stronger and should consult a doctor for prescribed allergy medicine.
We recommend:
- Zrytec Allergy Relief Tablets
- Allegra Adult 24 Hour Allergy Tablets
- Kirkland Signature Aller-Tec Tablets
Allergy Control Pillow Protectors
Most allergy sufferers struggle with bedding and pillows that collect and make allergy responses worse. Getting a special pillow protector and mattress protector can make a world of difference in how you wake up at night. Mine has reduced the amount of times I struggle with breathing at night and it’s made me much happier in the mornings. Pillow protectors create a barrier to dust mites, pet dander, and other allergens that can get caught in your pillow. This is one of the smallest cost investments in allergy reduction but it can make one of the biggest improvements!
We recommend:
- Allersoft 100-Percent Cotton Dust Mite & Allergy Control Standard Pillow Encasement
- Hospitology Sleep Defense System Waterproof / Dust Mite Proof Pillow Encasement
- SureGuard Pillow Protectors – 100% Waterproof – Zippered – Breathable Soft Cotton Terry Cover
Air Purifier
An air purifier can make a world of difference in the home of an allergy sufferer. This Hoover air purifier has a HEPA filter and makes air cleaner and more breathable. It’s sensor checks the air quality and automatically adjusts fan speed to fit the environment. For those with allergies to dust an air purifier can make your home feel crisper, cleaner with air that is easier to breathe.
We recommend:
- GermGuardian AC4825, 3-in-1 Air Cleaning System with True HEPA, UV-C and Odor Reduction
- GermGuardian AC5000E 3-in-1 True HEPA Air Purifier System with UV Sanitizer and Odor Reduction
- Honeywell HPA250B True HEPA Allergen Remover with Bluetooth Technology
Swiffer Products
Swiffer products might not seem like a necessity or a great gift idea, but when you suffer from allergies they are a life saver. Wiping up dust on tables and other surfaces along with sweeping up anything on the floor can be a huge help to allergy sufferers. Getting rid of all those lingering allergens can help you eliminate those triggers without releasing them back into the air.
We recommend:
- Swiffer Dusters Handle and Refills
- Swiffer Sweeper Dry Sweeping Cloth Refills
- Swiffer Sweeper Floor Mop Starter Kit
Allergy Reducer Spray
Febreze now sells a product targeted at reducing allergen spray. I admit I haven’t used this particular product yet as I normally use other Febreze sprays. This spray claims to eliminate odors as well as reduce up to 75% of allergens from cats, dogs, and dust mites. If you struggle with a pet allergy or want to keep your home reasonable for people with allergies that come over then you might want to try this allergenic reducer spray.
We recommend:
- Febreze Allergen Reducer
- Febreze Fabric Refresher Allergen Reducer Unscented
- Easy Air Allergy Relief Spray
Sealed Vacuum Cleaner
A sealed vacuum cleaner is one of the best gifts a person with allergies can ever get. Old vacuums with outdated technology can often suck up dust and dirt but then release it back into the environment. Sealed vacuum cleaners like the Shark Navigator and Oreck Sealed Vacuum have a sealed system with HEPA filtration that works perfectly to prevent that from happening. These vacuums capture and hold 99.9% of dust and allergens in the vacuum rather than releasing them into the air.
We recommend:
- Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional Vacuum
- Eureka Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner
- Shark Rotator Pro Complete Lift-Away Vacuum
Nasal Filters & Face Masks
These aren’t cute at all but they are effective and very useful depending on how often you have to complete tasks that trigger your allergies. This face mask helps prevent allergies when you are doing things like working outside or changing a cat’s litter box. Nasal filters do a similar job but they are more discreet and hi-tech. These filters are made of a breathable mesh that you put in your nostrils to filter out the pollen, dust, and other allergens. I’ve found face masks to work quite well and hope to try these awesome sounding nasal filters soon.

- WoodyKnows Ultra Breathable Nose / Nasal Filters
- First Defense Nasal Screens
While allergies might not be a problem solved by proper ergonomics, they are a health problem that can be made better with the right products. Hopefully these products give you an idea of what to gift yourself or loved ones if you suffer from allergy problems!
